Ranked Choice Explained
In 2024, Portland residents voted using ranked-choice methodology for the first time. We built the campaign to help them understand how.
Working with campaign consultant Ethan Krow, who brings over a decade of experience in local politics, we developed rankedchoicevoting.com to help constituents understand how to complete their ballots. Krow's expertise guided the design's simplicity and visual communication approach.
Lenny Latte
The campaign featured a one-minute animated video introducing "Lenny Latte," who demonstrated the voting process through Portland's favorite beverages as ranking examples. The character-driven approach made an abstract civic concept feel approachable and even fun.
Website & Print
The companion website explained distinctions between ranked-choice and previous voting methods, displayed sample ballots, and directed viewers toward additional resources. The design prioritized clarity for use within voting booths - legibility under pressure was paramount.
